One World One Heart

Logo2011
Click on the Picture to go to the Host of One World One Heart.

Once again, I've found a fantastic web-event, but in its final year.

One World One Heart is a worldwide event meant to connect bloggers. I've found some amazing blogs through it already.
And the bestest part? DOOR PRIZES!

Hi, I'm Alana. :)

I trained as a classical animator (that's hand-drawn to lay-people), but am now a dirty traitor and teach computer animation.
And I have a nigh compulsive need to MAKE THINGS.
I dabble in altered art, scrapbooking, jewelery/beading, knitting, painting. But my passion is dolls.
Cloth dolls, polymer clay dolls, BJDs, vinyl dolls, paper dolls...

Currently I've been on a roll making OOAK poly-clay soft-bodied dolls, but my favourites are the BJDs.
Best made of resin, they are horrendously expensive to buy, so I started making my own. (Incidentally, I've probably spent enough on silicone and resin over the last 3 years to buy myself 3 or 4 commercially produced dolls...)

So, Door prizes...
I have three.

A grey resin BJD. Her name is Evelyn.

Here's a better indication of her colouring.

A Dragon "bead" made in the Friesenesque style

A Goddess brooch.

So, leave a comment.
You have to have a blog, and I have to be able to see it - so leave a link to, or "comment as" (which should put a link in your name).

I'll draw three numbers with the random number generator on Feb 17th.

That's all the rules, easy, huh?

Hi Alana,

How lovely to meet you!

Did you work as animator or inbetweener? Any film or TV spot where I could see your work? Anyway, most stuff is computer-based now, but then again original sketches are still needed for any animation artwork. So there -- you aren't a traitor after all. ;)

Your prizes are all just fantastic -- and for a chance to win one of them. It would be like getting a piece of magic.

Happy creating,
Birgit

Your work is breathtaking. How can we be so lucky that you are parting with these lucious pieces of art? Bless you!! I have sculpted and enjoy it tremendously. Looking at your work makes me want to get back to it. I used to sculpt with ordinary plasticine and then coat it with vaseline lightly and then pour a 2 part mold (poured in separate sections, 1 hour apart with a heavy coat of vaseline applied to the first pouring) from plaster of paris. So I have a ton of molds laying around here. I would then put papier mache into the molds and bake them in the oven. Oh I do go on! Sorry...I got inspired there for a moment.
I'd love to have a chance to win a piece of your beautiful work. Please enter my name into your draw, and thanks! Norma (95)

Now this is what OWOH is about, stumbling randomly upon someone fun enough to follow! (although, WOW, your door prizes are simply wondrous!) I loved reading through/ following the photos of your doll making process. I did a sculpting doll making retreat last year, we all made totem animals. In just a few weeks I'll be returning with the same group of friends/artists to what's become our "2nd annual" retreat and this year the hostess is teaching us to make fae dolls. I'm excited and somewhat intimidated at the thought. You can see pics of our first retreat on my studio blog if you're interested. In any case, hope you can stop by my blogs on your OWOH travels. It's very nice to "meetcha".

Hi Alana,

I had to laugh out loud at "dirty traitor". Even so, your work is jaw dropping! The tutorials on your blog are wonderful as well.

Now your giveaway items - WOW. Evelyn is really something extra special and whomever wins will be incredibly lucky - I hope it's not in poor taste to really, really hope it's me :-) I love that little dragon and the goddess brooch as well.

Thanks so much for the chance,
Grace

What a gorgeous style you have- as an artist, I find it amazing how easily one's creativity flows from each discipline to the next...your background as an animator is obvious in the proportions of your sculptures- they are just beautiful! I would be thrilled to win any one of them!

I'm so jealous of those of you who can draw and create like this! We spent several hours at California Adventure taking classes from the Disney animators/illustrators. It was fun, but I still can't draw :(

Thank you for sharing your lovely creations with all of us.
